About GoodTools
The no-hype directory of tools worth your time. Every listing is handpicked, tested, and kept current.
Why GoodTools exists
New software launches every day, and most of it isn't worth your attention. App stores and search results are crowded with pay-to-play listings, affiliate-driven reviews, and abandoned projects. Finding a genuinely good tool takes longer than learning one.
GoodTools is our answer: a lean, curated directory covering 179 tools across 12 categories โ from AI assistants and developer platforms to design, video, marketing, and security. No sponsored rankings. No auto-generated filler. Just tools that earned a place.
How we pick tools
Actually used
We test tools on real work before listing them โ not just landing pages and demo videos.
Actively maintained
Dead projects get removed. We track development activity, pricing changes, and company health.
Honestly rated
Ratings reflect real strengths and weaknesses. Every listing shows pros and cons, not just marketing copy.
How the ratings work
Each tool gets an editorial rating from 0 to 5 based on four things: how well it does its core job, how good the pricing is for the value, how fast it is to learn, and how reliable it is in daily use. The rating is a starting point for your own trial, not a verdict.
Found something missing?
We review suggestions from makers and users continuously. If you know a tool that belongs here โ or spot a listing that's out of date โ we'd love to hear about it.
